One of the biggest achievements of the movement is that it has been able to make education an issue of public concern a central theme in socio-political. Indian education system, particularly its expansion; any expert from outside India would be bewildered. When the Constitution of India mandated that the state shall provide free and compulsory education to all children till they attain 14 years of age, it was indeed a very bold postulate. India at that stage stood at literacy rate of around 20. Today, its population is more than three times and, as official figures claim that access to education has crossed 98 per cent mark! The numbers of schools, universities, students and scholars are galloping fast. Expansion is necessary and desirable but the accompanying dilution in quality, content and skills acquired is indeed disastrous.

Looking Beyond Mumbai 26 / 11: Part

We must understand that the jihadis have an ambitious goal of
establishing a trans-Asian Caliphate from Indonesia to the Balkans via
Malayasia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and West Asia for capturing Europe, now
being called Eurabia because of its terminal demographic decline. It is time to
recall how immediately before and after July 7, 2005, bombings of the
London Tube (underground metro), the capital of U.K. was being
referred to ‘Londonistan’ by jihadi groups based in the United
Kingdom. In entire South Asia, India is the only non-Muslim country, a bulwark
of democracy, which constitutes a major impediment to the ambition of jihadis
to convert the world into Dar-ul Islam. There is no point in mincing words, or
hiding this simple truth.

Uncovered Backwardness of India’s
Muslims: Part II
Dr. Radhasyam Brahmachari
India's population is predominantly rural. In 2001 only 27.8% lived in urban areas, cities and towns of various sizes, showing a low degree of urbanization. Moreover, the tempo of urbanization has been quite low after 1981, with only about two percentage points rise in the share of the urban population over each decade. The Muslim population is also predominantly rural, but the level of urbanization among them has been higher than the population as a whole. In 1961, while overall only 18.0% of the population lived in urban areas, 27.1% of the Muslim population did so.
